Mahindra driver Felix Rosenqvist has secured pole position for the second Montreal ePrix, after a close battle with Sam Bird.

Having made it through to Super Pole, Rosenqvist but in a tidy but aggressive lap when it mattered, with a 1:22.344s proving good enough for P1 on the grid.

His nearest challenger Bird missed out by two tenths. The DS Virgin Racing driver was up in the first sector, before mistakes later in the lap cost him a chance of pole.

Jean-Eric Vergne’s neat Super Pole lap was good enough for third, ahead of Nick Heidfeld in the second Mahindra.

Championship leader Lucas di Grassi failed to nab the three extra points for pole, so his advantage over rival Sebastien Buemi will be 18 points. He will start fifth.

Daniel Abt just missed out on Super Pole and was sixth, ahead of Nicolas Prost – who will fall to the back of the grid due to penalties, after an auxiliary battery fire on Saturday.

Tom Dillmann was eighth, but will advance up a position, as will Nelson Piquet Jr., Stephane Sarrazin – who made a mistake at Turn 1 – and Jerome d’Ambrosio.

A scruffy lap for Jose Maria Lopez means he will line up 11th, thanks to Prost’s penalty, ahead of Loic Duval and Buemi – who will attempt to claim his second Formula E title from P13.
