The #31 Action Express Cadillac has lost Daytona 24 Hours pole position due to a technical infringement, IMSA has confirmed.

Jack Aitken put the car on pole earlier today, setting a 1:33.939. However, during post-session technical inspection, it was found that the car’s rear friction block had exceeded maximum wear, thereby breaking the regulations.

This means the car will be moved to the back of the GTP field and will start the race from there in 11th position, with every other car moving up. Thus, Renger van der Zande will start the #93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing machine on pole, inheriting it due to the Cadillac’s disqualification.

The #1 Paul Miller BMW originally qualified second in GTD Pro. Image: Kevin Dejewski

In GTD Pro, the #1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO will also lose second-place qualifying position due to the camber of the front wheels exceeding maximum allowed limits. Neil Verhagen qualified the car second in class, behind polesitter Alexander Sims in the #3 Corvette Z06 GT3R, but will be moved to the rear of the class with everyone behind him promoted one position up as a result.

In GTP, this puts the #93 Acura on pole with the #40 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac of Louis Deletraz moving up to a front row start. Felipe Nasr in the #7 Porsche will start third, after originally qualifying fourth.

While the GTD Pro polesitter remains the same – Sims in the #3 Corvette – alongside him now will be Dean MacDonald in the #59 RLL McLaren 720S GT3. Maro Engel, meanwhile, will be promoted to third in the #75 75 Express Mercedes-AMG GT3.

We have asked both teams served with technical infringements for comment and will update if or when we hear back.
