Ferrari junior driver Charles Leclerc continued his run of consecutive Formula 2 pole positions at the Hungaroring as he clocked the quickest time during qualifying.
The Monegasque driver, who set the pace in practice earlier on Friday, was one of several to wait for a gap in the action before heading out onto the circuit.
However, Sean Gelael spun his Arden machine, bringing out the red flags and leaving Leclerc without a representative time in the 30-minute session.
The current championship leader eventually got a quick time on the board with 10 minutes remaining and secured pole with a 1:26.268, finishing 0.463s clear of DAMS racer Oliver Rowland.
It means Leclerc has now continued his incredible run of pole positions in F2, taking every single one so far this season.
Rowland led for much of the session, slipping to P2 after Leclerc’s lap and after a wild moment at Turn 9 on his last lap.
Russian Time’s Artem Markelov was third, ahead of Jordan King and Antonio Fuoco. Norman Nato was sixth for Arden, with Silverstone sprint race winner Nicholas Latifi seventh.
Nyck de Vries was eighth for Rapax, his car being repaired after a practice crash. Nobuharu Matsushita, who will test an F1 car for Sauber next week, was ninth and Sergio Canamasas completed the top 10 on the grid.
Haas F1 junior Santino Ferrucci made the step up to F2 from GP3 and put in the 11th quickest time of the session on his debut.
