Porsche extended its lead in the World Endurance drivers' and manufacturers' championships with a one-two result at the 6 Hours of the Nurburgring.

Earl Bamber, Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley beat the identical 919 Hybrid driven by Andre Lotterer, Nick Tandy and Neel Jani by a margin of 1.606 seocnds.

The pair of Porsches dominated round four of the WEC, with the nearest Toyota TS050 Hybrid finishing over a minute back on the lead lap.

Hartley took the lead from Jose Maria Lopez in the pole-sitting #7 Toyota during the second hour with a well-timed lunge down the inside at turn one, before Jani slipped into second shortly after.

From there, the German manufacturer never looked back, extending its lead with superior outright pace throughout the contest.

The two Porsches briefly switched positions when Earl Bamber overtook Nick Tandy on lap 111, but reverted to their long-standing order when Bamber needed to take avoiding action against a spinning LMP2 car at the chicane.

With the #1 car placed higher in the championship than the #2, Porsche took the decision to switch the two at the final round of pit stops with 15 minutes to go, sealing a result that marks the extension of Bernhard, Bamber and Hartley's points lead over the #8 Toyota crew from 17 to 30 points.

It also signaled the first one-two for Porsche since the 6 Hours of Shanghai in 2015.

Toyota's lead car finished third, 1m 4.768 seconds down, while the team's siter car came through in fourth and six laps adrift after suffering a fuel pump failure on the formation lap.

LMP2 class honours went to the Jackie Chan DC Racing ORECA-Gibson that finished second overall at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last month.

Oliver Jarvis, Ho-Pin Tung and Thomas Laurent resisted an early challenge from the pair of Vaillante Rebellion ORECAs to increase their championship lead with a third win of the year.

Jarvis dropped behind the two Rebellions at the start, but reclaimed second place in the pits before overtaking Bruno Senna for the lead in the second hour.

The Jackie Chan crew held the lead from that point onward, with Tung taking the chequered flag one lap clear of Senna's #31 co-driven by Julien Canal and David Heienemeier Hansson.

Signatech Alpine pipped the other Rebellion to third after a thrilling race-long battle between the two crews, as Nicolas Lapierre found four seconds of daylight to shut out Mathias Beche.

Rounding out the top five in class was the #37 Jackie Chan DC Racing entry, piloted by Alex Brundle, David Cheng and Tristan Gommendy.

In GTE-Pro, Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado gave the AF Corse Ferrari squad its second victory of the campaign, and the first for the #51 488 Italia.

After a tight opening stint involving all four manufacturers, the Ferrari emerged on top through a combination of outright pace and an ability to run longer on its Michelin tyres.

Pier Guidi crossed the line with 49 seconds between himself and the second-placed Porsche of Richard Lietz and Frederic Makowiecki, which Calado passed for the lead at the start of the fourth hour.

Kevin Estre and Michael Christensen completed the podium in their pole-sitting 911 RSR, while Aston Martin's Nicki Thiim held off Harry Tincknell (who recovered from a spin induced by one of the LMP1 Porsches) in the battle for fourth.

GTE-Am victory went the way of the Proton Competition Porsche 911 RSR driven by Christian Ried, Marvin Dienst and factory junior Matteo Cairoli.
