DAMS racer Nicholas Latifi took a controlled first Formula 2 win in the Silverstone sprint race, holding off Luca Ghiotto.
The Canadian racer and Renault F1 test driver lined up on pole position and he led into the first corner after a strong start, before opening up a gap to those behind.
However, Russian Time’s Ghiotto, who had a good launch from the grid to take second on the opening lap, kept in touch before a late safety car.
Ralph Boschung attempted a move on Alexander Albon on the Hangar Straight but went onto the grass, spinning across the track and into the wall.
His car was cleared in enough time for a one-lap shootout to the chequered flag, where Latifi held off Ghiotto to claim the win.
Ghiotto was just 1.7 seconds further back, with Artem Markelov a slightly distant third after a tactic from Oliver Rowland on the restart.
Rowland was given a five-second time penalty earlier in the race for forcing Markelov onto the grass on the first lap, and held third on the restart.
He tried to back the pack up, so he could then open a gap on the final lap, but he instead got passed by Markelov and crossed the line in fourth.
The penalty dropped him to 10th, elevating Sergio Canamasas and Charles Leclerc, who swapped places on the last lap at Vale. Norman Nato was sixth, ahead of Nyck de Vries.
The Rapax driver made a storming start from last and was up to 11th by lap five, before continuing to make up ground. Nobuharu Matsushita and Gustav Malja were next up, also moving up a spot thanks to Rowland.
Albon also jumped up quite a few positions on lap one to take 11th, while Sean Gelael lost a possible top 10 result with a spin on the restart. Jordan King was an early retirement after contact with Rowland on lap one.
