Mercedes F1 junior George Russell beat his team-mate Jack Aitken to GP3 pole position in Austria to take an ART Grand Prix 1-2.
The British driver put in a 1:19.114 late in the session to snatch first place on the grid for the first GP3 race of the weekend at the Red Bull Ring.
It is his first pole position in the GP3 series, in what was a closely-fought 30-minute session where the entire 19-car field was separated by just eight tenths.
Renault junior Aitken lead early on, before slipping down to second and just missing out on pole by 0.072 seconds.
Trident’s Dorian Boccolacci was one and a half tenths off in third, with Leonardo Pulcini fourth for Arden and Steijn Schothorst fifth.
Giuliano Alesi, son of ex-F1 driver Jean, was sixth for Trident ahead of Ryan Tveter and Anthoine Hubert – who ran wide at the penultimate corner on his final lap.
Red Bull junior Niki Kari and Nirei Fukuzumi in the final ART car rounded out the top 10.
