Mercedes Formula 1 junior and ART Grand Prix driver George Russell set the pace on the opening day of the GP3 in-season test at the Hungaroring.
Russell, currently sixth in the GP3 standings after the season-opener in Spain last month, set his quickest time late in the morning session, with a 1:32.159.
He had been trading fastest times with Trident driver and pre-season pacesetter Dorian Boccolacci, who ended the day second – going two tenths slower than Russell in the afternoon running.
Alessio Lorandi, who finished both races in Barcelona on the podium, was third ahead of Renault F1 junior and ART driver Jack Aitken.
Haas F1 youngster Santino Ferrucci was fifth for DAMS, with Barcelona race winners Arjun Maini and Nirei Fukuzumi next up.
Campos duo Raoul Hyman and Marcos Siebert were eighth and ninth, while Trident’s Kevin Jorg completed the top 10.
The morning session was delayed by an hour while the Hungaroring’s medical set-up was in put in place, meaning the lost time was added to the afternoon running.
It was an untroubled early part of the day but the afternoon was disrupted by red flags for DAMS driver Bruno Baptista and Campos racer Julien Falchero stopping on track.
The two-day test at the Budapest track concludes on Wednesday.
