Richard Petty Motorsports has announced that Aric Almirola has been released from hospital after suffering a compression fracture in a NASCAR crash at Kansas.
Martin Truex Jr. went on to win the race, which was red flagged after a multi-car crash involving Almirola, Danica Patrick and Joey Logano.
Logano and Patrick made contact on lap 199, hitting the barrier hard before Almirola got caught up in the incident and slammed into Logano’s car.
Almirola was removed from the car and taken to hospital, being kept overnight for observation.
His team has now revealed he suffered a compression fracture to his T5 vertebra but has been released from hospital.
The full statement said:
“Aric Almirola, driver of the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford, has been released from a local Kansas hospital and will fly back to his home in Mooresville, N.C. today.
“Almirola suffered a compression fracture to his T5 Vertebra after a multi-car accident at Kansas Speedway Saturday night. Almirola is mobile and will follow-up with his doctors in Charlotte.
