Haas development driver Arjun Maini delivered Jenzer Motorsport’s first GP3 victory since 2012 as he claimed his maiden win in the second race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Maini started from the front row of the grid and moved into the lead off the line, breezing past pole man Raoul Hyman, before resisting pressure from Trident’s Dorian Boccolacci.
Maini and Boccolacci remained closely matched across the opening laps, before duelling for the lead on lap 5 of 17, running side-by-side for several corners.
The next time around, the Frenchman dived up the inside of Turn 1 in a bid to take the lead, but Maini remained committed around the outside and thus held the inside for Turn 2, with the duo rubbing wheels.
Boccolacci lost time and Maini soon escaped DRS range. From there, the Indian youngster rapidly pulled clear, eventually crossing the line six seconds clear as he chalked up his first win in the category.
Boccolacci held second while Alessio Lorandi claimed another third-placed finish, ensuring Jenzer had two drivers on the podium for the first time since it entered GP3 for the inaugural 2010 campaign.
Anthoine Hubert was the lead ART racer in fourth, ahead of George Russell, Race 1 winner Nirei Fukuzumi and pole sitter Hyman.
Maini’s fellow Haas development driver, Santino Ferrucci, claimed the final point in eighth.
