DS Virgin Racing driver Sam Bird is confident the team can secure some “strong points” at this weekend’s Monaco ePrix.
The British driver has considerable experience around the streets of Monaco, following outings in Formula Renault 3.5 and GP2, and finished fourth the last time Formula E visited in 2015.
It has been a mixed 2016/2017 Formula E season so far for Bird, with two podiums – second in Marrakesh and third last time out in Mexico – and two non-scores.
He is looking forward to getting back to racing in Monaco and feels optimistic DS Virgin can score a good haul of points after a good showing in Mexico.
“I’m very excited about the race in Monaco,” Bird said ahead of this weekend’s race.
“Going back to the Principality is always amazing for a driver and I’ve had some great results there in the past by winning both in World Series by Renault and GP2.
“I feel very good ahead of this event, I came 4th there last time for the team and I believe we’ve done some great work since Mexico.
“I fully believe that both myself and my team-mate will be fighting for strong point scores come Saturday afternoon.”
Despite scoring his best result of the season so far in Mexico with sixth, José María López was disappointed with the result and is hoping for more in Monaco.
“Mexico City was a disappointing race for me, although it was my highest finish so far it could have been better,” he admitted.
“I’m excited to race in Monaco. I feel positive, my results have been getting better during the season as I have been growing in confidence.”
