Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac flies to COTA pole

Ricky Taylor dominated the qualifying shootout for the Austin, TX round of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, with the Cadillac DPi driver lapping over a second quicker than his nearest rival.

Driving the championship-leading Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R, Taylor set a time of 1:54.809s to claim his second consecutive pole position.

DPi prototypes occupied the top four places at Circuit of the Americas, with Johannes van Overbeek lapping second quickest in the #22 ESM Nissan (+ 1.592 seconds).

Action Express Racing swept the second row of the grid, with Eric Curran edging out Christian Fittipaldi.

The best-placed global-spec LMP2 prototype was the PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Ligier driven by José Gutierrez, who ended up two seconds off the pace.

In GT Le Mans, BMW driver John Edwards struck late to deny Giancarlo Fisichella of pole position in his Ferrari 488.

Fisichella had commanded much of the session when Edwards charged to a 2:02.833s effort on his final flying tour to oust the former Grand Prix winner.

Edwards, who shares the #24 M6 with Martin Tomczyck, slipped ahead of Fisichella by 0.032 seconds.

Third on the grid in GTLM tomorrow will be the sister BMW qualified by Alexander Sims, ahead of the best-placed Ford in the hands of Ryan Briscoe.

Prototype Challenge was led by Performance Tech Motorsports (ORECA FLM09), whilst Alegra Motorsports topped GT Daytona (Porsche 911 GT3-R).

Round four of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship is due to get underway tomorrow (May 6th) at 14:35 local time.
