McLaren-Honda development driver Nobuharu Matsushita will continue to compete in GP2 with ART Grand Prix this year.
Honda-backed Matsushita, 23, made his debut in GP2 in 2015 with the French team, racing alongside Stoffel Vandoorne, and placed ninth with one victory.
Matsushita added another win in last year’s Monaco sprint race before being suspended for one round for instigating a multi-car collision during a frantic event in Baku.
Matsushita struggled upon his return but added a podium finish during the Abu Dhabi finale to finish 11th in the standings.
"I am happy to be able to race in GP2 again, and very honoured to work with ART for a third consecutive season," he said.
"It is a fantastic team that helped me to settle in a brand new environment back in 2015 but also allowed me to grow as a driver and to secure a win and several podiums during my first year in the series.
"I hope I will be able to bring them more wins this season and to help them to fight for the championship."
ART has not yet confirmed a team-mate for Matsushita, though GP3 runner-up Alexander Albon is expected to graduate to the secondary category.
Matsushita’s compatriot, Nirei Fukuzumi, will also continue his association with ART for a further year, remaining in the GP3 championship.
Fukuzumi made the transition to European racing last year and finished seventh in the standings, with three podiums to his name.
"I learned a lot last year thanks to ART and I feel at home in the team," he said.
"I know I can count on ART to keep improving and to have the best package and strategies in 2017.
"Now that I have the knowledge of the circuits, the series and the car I feel I have all the assets to fight for wins and for the championship."
Fukuzumi joins Mercedes-backed George Russell at ART, with Jack Aitken and Anthoine Hubert poised to form a four-strong line-up for the series’ dominant squad.
It was also announced that fellow Honda youngster, Tadasuke Makino, will move into European Formula 3 with Hitech.
