MotoGP has announced that it will race at the Sepang International Circuit until at least 2021 after agreeing a contract extension.
Organisers Dorna Sports and the Sepang track have signed a contract renewal for the next five years, securing the future of the Malaysian Grand Prix.
The news was announced following qualifying for this weekend’s Malaysian GP at the Sepang circuit, with Andrea Dovizioso securing pole position.
Malaysia hosted its first race in 1991 at the Shah Alam circuit, before it moved to Sepang for the 1999 season and has remained on the calendar ever since.
Sepang has also been used as a pre-season test venue by the series, with the track being familiar with the current riders.
“I am happy to inform that we have signed a contract extension for another five years, ending 2021, that was completed this morning,” said Tan Sri Azman Yahya, chairman of the Sepang circuit.
“We will continue with MotoGP for the next five years, and think we will see even better response from the public.
“I’m very pleased to announce this as it’s my first negotiation as the Chairman of Sepang, and I hope our decision is supported and welcomed.”
