Austrian driver Rene Binder will return to the GP2 series for this weekend’s round at the Hockenheimring, joining the Carlin team.
Binder will replace Sergio Canamasas in the No.18 car for the seventh round of the 2016 GP2 season, having tested for Carlin earlier in the year.
He previously competed in three full seasons of GP2, as well as making a few appearances 2012 and competing for ART Grand Prix at the Austrian race weekend this month.
Binder’s best result in GP2 so far has been sixth place in the 2013 Monaco sprint race. His focus this year has been mainly on the Formula V8 3.5 series.
He joins Carlin for the German GP2 round to partner Marvin Kirchhofer, who will be competing on home soil.
“Hockenheim has always been one of my favourite circuits so I want to thank Trevor Carlin for this great opportunity to race his car in Germany this weekend,” Binder said.
“I look forward to racing and hope that we can get some good points together.
“Looking back to my last guest GP2 start in Spielberg I have unfinished business however all in all my season so far is going well, given the four podiums that I have achieved in Formula V8 3.5.
“I feel in good shape and just want to make the best of it.”
