Stefan Wilson has been confirmed for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 with KVSH Racing.
The 26-year-old British racer is the brother of the late Justin Wilson, who tragically lost his life after an incident at the penultimate race of last season at Pocono Raceway.
Stefan Wilson will join KVSH Racing’s full-time racer Sebastien Bourdais at the Indianapolis 500, as well as fellow rookie Matthew Brabham who will also compete in the Grand Prix of Indianapolis beforehand.
"I want to say it's a little bit bittersweet," explained Stefan Wilson, who competed in the Indy Lights series between 2009 and 2012, winning two races.
"I'm super excited for the opportunity to qualify for the race, but now that we've got the deal done and the focus is on the race, there's a part of me that does start to miss Justin as well.
"When I got the deal done, the first person I wanted to tell was Justin and I couldn't.
“I know he's going to be looking down and know he's proud. I want to make him as proud of me as I was of him.”
The Wilson brothers competed alongside each other as team-mates during Stefan’s first and so far only IndyCar race at Baltimore back in 2013, competing for Dale Coyne Racing.
In honour of his brother, Stefan will compete with the No. 25 on his car, the same number Justin ran during his final race last season.
