Audi Sport Team Joest has appealed the decision by the FIA World Endurance Championship stewards to exclude the No.7 car from the 6 Hours of Silverstone.
The No.7 LMP1 entry of Marcel Fassler, Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer claimed a clear overall victory at the WEC season opener.
But the car underwent post-race scrutineering and was found to be over the permitted skid plank wear tolerances allowed under the series’ regulations.
The stewards deemed the No.7 Audi's skid block exceeded the maximum allowed by just 5mm. The car was excluded and the win went to the No.2 Porsche 919 Hybrid of Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb.
Early on Monday morning Audi released the following statement, confirming it is appealing the exclusion:
"Audi Sport Team Joest has appealed against the exclusion of winners Marcel Fassler/Andre Lotterer/Benoit Treluyer. Hence the result of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season opener remains provisional.
"The stewards of the meeting received a report from the Technical Delegate explaining that the thickness of the front skid block of car no. 7 doesn’t comply with article 3.5.6 a3 of the LMP1 Technical Regulations. Audi Sport Team Joest has appealed the decision to exclude the number 7 car from the results. Hence the race result will depend on the decision of a sport tribunal."
