Adam Carroll will move up to the FIA World Endurance Championship this season, making his debut in the series with Gulf Racing.
The Irish driver will race alongside Porsche Supercup podium finisher Ben Barker and Gulf Racing co-founder Mike Wainwright in the GTE Am class, driving a Porsche 991 RSR.
Carroll previously raced in GP2 and won the 2008-2009 A1GP title with Team Ireland. He also made two IndyCar starts in 2010, before switching focus to sportscar and endurance racing.
2016 will be Carroll’s fourth season competing with the Gulf Racing outfit, which was set up in 2011. He has previously raced in the Blancpain Endurance Series and European Le Mans Series for the British team.
Barker made several European Le Mans Series appearances in 2014 and joined Gulf late last year. Wainwright and Roald Goethe founded the team and its move up to the FIA WEC will mean a Gulf-liveried Porsche will race at Le Mans for the first time since 1971.
The line-up for the new FIA WEC season continues to take shape. Earlier this month Nicolas Lapierre and Gustavo Menezes were confirmed as the first two drivers at the Signatech Alpine LMP2 team, driving the Oreca 05 coupe.
Meanwhile ByKolles has announced that Pierre Kaffer and Simon Trummer will return to the privateer LMP1 outfit for the 2016 season, driving an updated CLM P1/01 AER.
