Pastor Maldonado is expecting an easier time with Renault power this season, following a difficult year together in 2014 before Lotus switched to Mercedes power units.
However with Renault completing its takeover of the Enstone team, it will dump its Mercedes engines in favour of the French manufacturer’s questionable unit, which has been the subject of heavy criticism by customer team Red Bull.
The Venezuelan is expecting far fewer struggles though and believes Renault will have made a lot of progress since his previous experience of their engine.
“I have experience with them in the past, so it would be very interesting for me to approach a new season with Renault,” he is quoted by Autosport.
“Of course it won’t be very easy, so we need to build the success, but Renault has all the facilities to do it in the best way.
“We have experience with a Renault engine in the past, even if it was not working properly.
“But we know why, we have more experience and we know where the problems were, so it will be easier to approach a new season with a Renault engine than it was.”
Renault will continue to supply Red Bull with engines, branded as TAG-Heuer, but has ended its partnership with Toro Rosso which will return to Ferrari power.
