Hamilton wins in Belgium as Grosjean lands a podium

Lewis Hamilton took a commanding win at the 2015 Belgian Grand Prix, leading from start to finish to take his 39th career victory.

Team-mate Nico Rosberg crossed the finish line in second, handing Mercedes their seventh 1-2 of the season, further extending their lead in the championship.

The race started with an aborted lap when Nico Hulkenberg suffered a power failure on the grid. That was followed by similar problems for Carlos Sainz, with both retiring to the pits.

As the race eventually began, Rosberg got a poor start and dropped back to fifth whilst Hamilton led ahead of Sergio Perez who at one point took the lead along the Kemmel Straight, before dropping back into second place behind the Mercedes.

As the race played out, Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo came into play, taking second from Perez, but the undercut by Rosberg got him ahead of both before a hydraulic failure ended Ricciardo’s race.

Further shuffling up and down the grid saw Sebastian Vettel emerge in third, though Lotus’s Romain Grosjean wasn’t far behind in the closing stages of the race.

A puncture for the Ferrari driver on the Kemmel Straight with just two laps left meant Grosjean was promoted to a podium position – Lotus’s first since the 2013 Korean GP.

There was an intense scrap behind over fourth between Daniil Kvyat, Sergio Perez, Felipe Massa, Kimi Raikkonen and Max Verstappen – all eventually split by just over ten seconds as they crossed the line.
