Sebastian Vettel topped the times for the second day in a row, keeping Ferrari ahead of its rivals in Jerez on Tuesday.
The German’s quickest lap, a 1:20.984, was posted during a rapid sequence of laps in the morning session, placing him almost a second ahead of Sauber’s Felipe Nasr.
The afternoon saw rain and therefore sealed many of the times, with Valtteri Bottas taking third ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton who clocked up the most laps at 91.
A water leak for the reigning world champion ended his day early.
Max Verstappen debuted the Toro Rosso and was over a second quicker than Pastor Maldonado in the Lotus. The Venezuelan managed to complete 41 laps despite the team sitting out day one and much of the morning.
McLaren-Honda’s difficult test continued with Jenson Button only seventh, completing a handful of laps. However he wasn’t slowest, that went to Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat who was forced to test without a front-wing after damaging the only one available.
