Bernie Ecclestone believes Lewis Hamilton will secure a third title this year and says the Britain is a “good champion” for the sport.
Hamilton certainly heads into the season as favourite, closely followed by team-mate Nico Rosberg, after Mercedes dominated the 2014 season, and with the regulations remaining stable, there’s no reason why they won’t dominate again.
“Whether he is [favourite] or not, I think he’s going to win it,” the 84-year-old told Sky Sports.
“He’s a rapper,” joked Ecclestone. “So we’re going to get to a completely different audience as well now. He’s going to be good as a world champion.”
Meanwhile Ecclestone fears Mercedes could dominate the sport for years to come – something he is keen to avoid and is therefore pushing for changes to the regulations.
“Mercedes have done such a good job with this power unit, its left everybody behind,” he added.
“I can’t see people catching up that quickly. Maybe in three years. We can’t afford to wait three years, or two years or one year.”
