Williams remain confident of finishing second in the Constructors’ Championship despite dropping to fourth after a disappointing Hungarian Grand Prix.
It’s a position the team hasn’t held since 2003, and whilst they sit 84 points adrfit of Red Bull and a mere seven shy of Ferrari, the FW36 is arguably the pacesetter behind Mercedes.
Head of vehicle performance, Rob Smedley, reckons Hungary was a one-off due to the nature of the track and believes the next few races present an opportunity to close the deficit.
“Our target is to be second in the Championship and that’s still achievable,” the Briton told Autosport.
“I think we had a race [in Hungary] that was a little bit anomalous if you look at our results over the last five races.
“We’ve got two races [Belgium and Italy] coming up where we’ve got to capitalise on the characteristics of the car.
“We think those circuits will suit us. We have to capitalise on that and put ourselves in a good position.”
