Alonso: ‘Hembery has apologised for his remarks’

Fernando Alonso has confirmed that Pirelli’s Paul Hembery apologised to the Spaniard after the pair got in to a war of the words during the Korean Grand Prix.

Alonso’s claims that the tyres were on the limit and wouldn’t complete more than 5km if a driver drove on the limit, was rebuffed by Hembery who told Alonso to seek advice from Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel on how to use them properly.

During a meeting with Hembery, arranged by Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali, Hembery apologised but Alonso stood by his claims.

“I didn’t know if the comments were right or not, so we called him [Hembery] here just to explain if he said that,” confirmed Alonso.

“He didn’t know the complete sentence and he apologised. It’s good from him to apologise after a mistake because he misunderstood what we were saying.

“We said that the tyres were not able to do five kilometres, which is a fact, not words.

“We said that there are marbles. You have two metres of racing line; it’s a fact, not words.

“And we have problems this year with the tyres, we saw the last one with [Sergio] Perez. It is a fact, not words.”
