The FIA’s safety delegate and Formula 1 race director Charlie Whiting visited Mexico on Wednesday to inspect the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit.
The event is set to return to the F1 calendar next season as part of a 21-race roster which will see Mexico make its return for the first time since 1992 when it last hosted the sport.
Whiting attended with Federico Alamán, director of event group OCESA, Tavo Hellmund, FIA Vice President Jorge Abed and Johannes Hogrebe from Herman Tilke’s architect firm.
Tilke will once again be in charge of renovating the circuit – as he has done with many circuits in the past – to ensure it meets the latest FIA Grade 1 standard.
Several changes are required, including corner re-profiling and facility upgrades, before Whiting signs off on the venue’s inclusion on the calendar in 2014.
It currently has a provisional date of November 9th.
