Russian teenager Sergey Sirotkin is to undergo an intensive testing programme courtesy of Sauber to ensure he is prepared and ready for his Formula 1 debut in 2014.
The 18-year-old – thanks to an investment deal from three Russian companies – will join Sauber as a racing driver next year and become the youngest ever to do so.
In order to ensure he can handle the extremes of an F1 car and to gain his Super Licence, he must complete several hundred kilometres of testing, which Sauber hope to achieve in October.
“We are working on putting together the testing programme for him because you are allowed to test with an older car,” team principal Monisha Kaltenborn confirmed.
“We have more or less finalised the dates, we just have to look at certain availabilities,” she added. “We are planning for the end of October.”
It’s expected he will complete around 12 days or running in a 2011 Sauber chassis, as using last year’s car would contravene the testing regulations, at various circuits.
