Bernie Ecclestone has cast doubt over the Indian Grand Prix’s future, with many expecting this years race to be the last in the country for some time.
A 22-race calendar has been mooted for next season with the introduction of Russia, New Jersey and Austria, but Ecclestone says that won’t happen and two races will have to be dropped to ensure it remains at the current limit of 20.
Korea and India are the most likely to go, and Ecclestone hinted that the latter’s future isn’t safe.
“Is India going to happen next year? Probably not,” he told Reuters. “It’s very political.”
The Indian government doesn’t recognise Formula 1 as a sport and therefore hasn’t granted it custom exemption like all other countries which host a race, which has angered teams and drivers.
