Lotus see no reason why they can’t win one of the remaining two races this season following on from their maiden victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last weekend.
Team principal Eric Boullier is hopeful that they can secure a win either this coming weekend at the inaugural United States GP at the new Austin facility, or at the season finale in Brazil.
“People are happy and have a new spring in their step; even if the weather outside the factory is very cold now,” said the Frenchman.
“There’s a fantastic feeling of excitement and we have two races yet to go,” he added. “We did it once and we can do it again this season. It took us time to get this win but we all knew that we could do it.”
He added that the win came at the right time for the team as focus switches to the new car for 2013, giving everyone at Enstone additional motivation.
“It did arrive at a time when more and more people start working on next year’s car, which is good timing.”
Their first win under the Lotus name also marked Kimi Räikkönen’s first win since his comeback at the start of the year and Boullier says he never doubted the Finn’s abilities.
“This was maybe a surprise for anyone on the outside of the team that doubted him, but for everyone on the inside it was not,” said Boullier of the 33-year-old.
“Kimi has certainly made his mark and shown that he’s back in Formula 1 and back at his best form. Having him back getting podiums and a win is great for him, great for the team and great for the fans. Moreover, ‘Leave me alone, I know what I’m doing’ has already become a Formula 1 classic!”
