Michael Schumacher has been handed a ten-place grid penalty for the Japanese Grand Prix in a fortnight’s time after he caused a collision during the Singapore GP.
The Mercedes driver ran into the rear of Jean-Eric Vergne shortly after the restart caused by Narain Karthikeyan. The resultant damage caused both cars to retire and resulted in a second safety car period.
The FIA said Schumacher “failed to anticipate the braking performance of the car with lower tyre grip following a safety car period. The penalty takes into account that this is the second similar incident by the driver this season.”
Schumacher hit Bruno Senna in Spain which resulted in a grid penalty in Monaco where he claimed pole.
