Robert Kubica says he’s not sure what his future holds in regards to returning to Formula 1, but dropped a hint that he’s aiming for 2014 if he’s fit enough.
The Polish driver was speaking to SkySports24 in his first media interview since his accident in February last year.
The 27-year-old is set to compete in the Ronde Gomitolo di Lana rally this week to mark his return to competitive motorsport and he says he must continue to push himself if he’s to realise his dream of returning.
Though he insists he’s not set any deadlines or timeframes for such a return.
“I have never thought about in terms of percents and timing,” he said. “Today, as I already said, I am happy to be here. Sometimes in your life you have to be happy with where you are, however one would like to be somewhere else.
“I am not able to answer right now what the future will bring.”
Whilst he’s unable to say if F1 is possible, he hinted that 2014 could be the very earliest if he were to return.
“Of course, I am doing my best to be fully fit next year. During the coming months I will be able to decide what I will do in the future.
“I have tested rally cars on circuits lately and in the next months I will decide on what I will do in the future and what will give me maximum pleasure. I will also be able to say if a return to Formula 1 is possible or not.
“What I will do next year will give me some indications regarding 2014.”
