The Lotus outfit will seek permission to organise a private three-day test after it pulled out of the Barcelona session having completed just seven laps on day one.
The team discovered an issue with the chassis which was severe enough for team principal Eric Boullier to call an end to their second pre-season test, in order for modifications to be made back at their Enstone base.
With the already limited amount of pre-season testing available, it’s critical Lotus complete as much on-track running as possible, especially with two returning drivers, neither of which raced in 2011.
Teams can opt to miss a single test day in order to hold a private test of their own, as Mercedes did this season, but three days is unprecedented.
If the request is granted, Silverstone is the most likely location as the team is based in the United Kingdom, whilst Barcelona, also the location of the final test, is booked up for a Ferrari filming day immediately after, whilst GP2 has the circuit for its own testing purposes in March.
