Fernando Alonso has called on the Ferrari outfit to improve its one-lap pace in order to aid the Spaniards qualifying performance.
Red Bull, particularly Sebastian Vettel, have dominated qualifying, with the German taking all but three pole positions this season, the other three going to teammate Mark Webber.
Alonso believes it is imperative that he finishes higher up the grid on Saturday to give him a better shot at winning the following day.
“We have made up a lot of ground compared to the very early part of the season in terms of performance, but we must take a further step forward, as I have said so often before,” he wrote in his diary.
“We still lack something, especially in qualifying: it’s true that in the race we can make up for this, but it’s not always possible to move up two places compared to our grid position, as happened in Monaco, Valencia, Silverstone and Nurburgring.”
The Ferrari driver says he’s looking forward to better weather conditions, despite winning a damp British GP as well as taking second in Germany, where temperatures averaged just 13ºC.
“At the Hungaroring, the weather should be more in keeping with summer, which is no bad thing as I’ve had enough of the cold and damp we experienced in England and Germany!
“That goes not just for me, but also for our car: it would definitely work better in temperatures higher than the 13° we had last Sunday.”
Alonso will celebrate his 30th birthday on Friday at the Hungaroring.
