Ferrari has opted to dump ‘Marlboro’ from their official team name following criticism from anti-tobacco groups.
Whilst it might not be noticeable on the cars, which remain unchanged, the teams official entry and signage has reverted to ‘Scuderia Ferrari’ rather than ‘Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro’.
This comes after the Italian outfit announced a contract extension with the Phillip Morris owned brand until the 2015 season, which reportedly cost the world’s largest cigarette brand an estimated £300 million over the four years.
The team confirmed the changes were made in response to recent concerns and to avoid unnecessary and avoidable arguments.
This isn’t the first time the outfit has come under scrutiny from anti-tobacco campaigners. During the 2010 season the team were forced to change their logo after they were accused of subliminal advertising.
