Lewis Hamilton has urged McLaren to re-sign the ‘fantastic’ Jenson Button for a further three years.
The two drivers are often seen as the perfect racing couple, despite their close racing, sometimes too close – as seen in Canada when the two made contact, they remain good friends.
It’s that harmony which Hamilton says creates a ‘comfortable atmosphere’ within the team, something he didn’t have with former-teammate Fernando Alonso in 2007.
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” he is quoted as saying by the Mirror. “I’d love to race alongside him for another three years.
“Jenson has been fantastic. He has been very quick and competitive. His demeanour helps create a comfortable atmosphere in the team. We have more harmony in our team than in any other.”
McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh has dropped several hints recently that he wishes to keep the status quo by signing both drivers up, and his latest comments reaffirm that position.
“Jenson has been a great member of this team, we are really fortunate with Lewis and Jenson to have two great racing drivers.
“I very much want them to be a part of this team for a long time to come,” he added.
