The Bahrain Grand Prix will go ahead as part of the 2011 season after the World Motor Sport Council met on Friday to give the event the green-light.
The event was set to open the season but was postponed after violence broke out in the country. The government lifted a state of emergency on June 1st to coincide the with decision.
Further confirmation has come from the Chairman of the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC).
“This is welcome news for all of Bahrain,” Zayed R Alzayani said.
“As a country we have faced a difficult time, but stability has returned, with businesses operating close to normal, the State of National Safety lifted and countries removing travel restrictions.”
A firm date hasn’t been given, but it is expected to replace the Indian GP on October 30th, with that race being scheduled later in the year, around December.
