The BBC’s coverage of the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, in which Sebastian Vettel was crowned the youngest ever Formula 1 world champion, has been awarded a Bafta award.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts awarded the BBC Sport team which, at the time, consisted of Jake Humphrey, Eddie Jordan, David Coulthard, Martin Brundle, Jonathan Legard, Ted Kravitz and Lee McKenzie.
The program beat the BBC’s Six Nations coverage, Wimbledon and ITV’s FA Cup Final coverage to be named the best.
Ben Gallop, head of F1 at the BBC said: “The team are delighted. It was a fantastic season last year and the climax of the campaign in Abu Dhabi was amazing.
“We feel privileged to bring that excitement to the viewers at home.
“We tried to get the audience as close as possible to the action and this award is testament to the brilliant efforts of the on-air talent, the production team and our technical crew, who have put in an fantastic effort throughout the season.”
