Ferrari say they plan a major wind tunnel upgrade this summer following miscalculated data hampering their development efforts.
The tunnel at their Maranello factory is being blamed for giving inaccurate feedback on new parts of the F150º Italia which led to the Italian outfit using Toyota’s facility in Germany.
Aldo Costa, the teams technical director, says the data from the Toyota tunnel has given them differing results, promoting the call for an upgrade to their own.
“It is not unusual to have a problem in the wind tunnel, unfortunately when it happens to us there is a lot of attention,” he admitted to Autosport.
“We investigated in the Toyota wind tunnel, so we have the possibility to compare the three different environments – and also a fourth because there is the CFD as well.”
He admitted the upgrade wouldn’t come until towards the end of the season, but was more confident that they had fixed some of smaller issues with their own.
“I hope by September or October we will achieve a very, very good point in terms of correlation of tunnel and track.
“We have already fixed and understood quite a lot of problems – so it [the tunnel] is working at the moment.
“We are continuously improving the wind tunnel and there is action to come in the next few months. The last few actions will be in order to put definitely to bed this issue, and they will be September/October.”
