After announcing on Tuesday that they will not be lodging an appeal with the FIA, Sauber has received further backing from their fans as they ask why the C30 was allowed to race all weekend before being disqualified from the race on Sunday.
Kaumi Kobayashi and Sergio Perez, who finished 7th and 8th respectively in the race, were both disqualified and stripped of their points after it was discovered that their rear-wing radius did not conform to regulations set out by the sports governing body.
Angry fans of the Swiss-team have created further fallout and cannot understand why the car passed scrutineering for the Australian practice and qualifying sessions.
“The checks before practice is only to see if the 24 cars meet the safety requirements,” explained Paul Gutjahr, one of the three stewards at Albert Park.
It was also revealed that the Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren and Toro Rosso teams faced the same rear-wing checks post-race, all of which were found to conform.
In a further blow, it has been reported, but unconfirmed, that Sauber have dismissed their technical director, James Key, for the oversight – Sauber refused to comment on this.
