The shareholders behind the South Korean Grand Prix in Yeongam have sacked their chief organiser after a meeting on Friday.
The Korea Auto Valley Operation (KAVO) held a meeting to discuss the 2011 race which will take place on the 19th October and came to the decision that it would be too risky to retain Chung Young-Cho.
The race went ahead successfully after weeks of doubt. The track was just finished in-time, although preparations continued right up until the start of the race with alterations to the track taking place on Sunday morning.
KAVO are hoping to avoid a repeat of 2010 which caused some embarrassment to the host country. Park Won-Hwa, former South Korean ambassador to Switzerland, will takeover the position.
An official spokesperson told the Yonhap News Agency that: “Investors felt that KAVO’s management under Chung couldn’t guarantee success this year.”
In response, Chung added: “I asked that the meeting be held after the probe [by state officials] is over. I don’t know why they rushed into to this.”
