Fernando Alonso is confident the regulation changes planned for the 2011 season will produce more overtaking.

The new moveable rear-wing and the return of KERS have come in for some criticism, with fans’ claiming it could produce ‘manufactured’ racing.

The Spaniard though welcomes the changes and believes the show will be better for everybody.

“Obviously, every year normally, Formula 1 changes its rules to make it more spectacular, to have more overtaking manoeuvres and to have a better show,” he said in an interview provided by the Ferrari press office.

“It’s true that in 2011 there are two big changes to the regulations, which is the KERS and the rear-wing that we can move when we have an overtaking possibility.

“I think these two combined give us a speed advantage that is quite big compared to the car in front.

“So I’m confident that next year, finally, the rules will help overtaking and we will have a better show for everybody.”

Another major change next year will be the introduction of Pirelli tyres. Alonso says the most important thing is ensuring they are coordinated with the Ferrari to ensure they can get the maximum out of all the changes.

“One of the most important is the tyres, which normally change the behaviour of the car, so we have to make sure that Pirelli is well coordinated with our car,” added Alonso.
