Mark Webber has revealed that he fractured his shoulder whilst cycling just after the Singapore Grand Prix.
The Australian had to have injections to ease the pain during the Japanese, Korean, Brazilian and Abu Dhabi GP’s.
He also kept the injury a secret from his Red Bull team, including team principal Christian Horner. The only two men he told were trainer Roger Cleary and FIA doctor Gary Hartstein.
The revelation comes after the release of his book, Mark Webber Up Front: A Season to Remember.
“I was riding with a great friend of mine [prior to the Japanese GP]. Suddenly, he crashed right in front of me and I had nowhere to go but straight through the ears of the horse!
“I suffered what they call a skier’s fracture to my right shoulder. Suzuka is a brutal track so it was a blessing that the Japanese weather gave me an enforced rest day on the Saturday, and a pre-race injection helped, too,” read an extract.
The accident follows his 2008 crash which saw the Red Bull driver fracture his leg, leading to an intensive recovery period.
