Red Bull have passed the FIA scrutineering tests after Friday’s practice sessions, despite the FIA toughening up the checks after complaints from rival teams.
The weight tests on the front-wings have been increased from 50kg with 10mm deflection to 100kg and 20mm deflection. However, without making any modifications, Red Bull have passed the tests.
The news was revealed by Jo Bauer, the FIA’s technical delegate, in a report published after second practice, which states the Red Bull of Mark Webber and the McLaren of Lewis Hamilton conformed to the new regulations.
The on-going furore surrounding flexible wings looks set to continue nonetheless, as further tests are to be introduced at the Italian GP. These additional tests will look at the floors of the cars, to ensure they aren’t flexing under pressure, thus lowering the front of the car.
