Kamui Kobayashi will start in 23rd place after being penalised with a five-place grid penalty for ignoring a red light as he entered the pitlane in Q1.

The Japanese driver qualified in 18th position after being held up by Bruno Senna on his final flying lap of the session.

He took the decision to abandon the lap and enter the pits where he should have driven into the stewards area to be weighed after qualifying, but failed to spot the red light and several marshals pointing him in the right direction.

He will now start alongside fellow-Japanese driver Sakon Yamamoto, promoting Glock, Kovalainen, Trulli, Di Grassi and Senna.
