Christian Horner has joined the growing list of voices expressing concern over the new teams pace, particularly the unknown pace and reliability of the Hispania car.
With zero testing under their belt, rookie’s Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok will take to the track for the first time at Friday practice one.
Horner says Red Bull’s plan is to just stay out of their way.
“We will just try to stay out of their way.” he told the Times.
“The danger is the time difference is going to be so big – up to five seconds a lap – and the difference in the closing speeds is massive.
“The potential for them to cause an incident is reasonably high.”
Meanwhile, McLaren’s Jonathan Neale called for support for the new teams.
“As a group we have to be supportive in getting new teams off the ground. I respect greatly what the drivers are saying and one or two have raised concerns about it, but I think that’s a matter for the FIA.”
He did express some concern, and relief that it wasn’t him and his team in the same position.
“I wouldn’t like to be an MD with a car running for the first time on a GP Friday, in terms of the reliability package.
“I’m sure that the FIA will look very closely at it and if there are big gaps in closing speeds and plenty of red flags, then they’ll take the necessary actions. And it’s important that they do because we don’t want yet more casualties before the start of the season.”
