Sir Stirling Moss has been hospitalised after a ‘freak’ accident at his home.
The F1 legend broke both his ankles and four bones in his feet, as well as suffering skin aberrations and four chipped vertebrae after a lift in his house fell three floors.
The lift malfunctioned when the doors on the third floor opened, despite the lift being a further floor up.
A press release red: “His immediate family were present with him at the time of the accident, Paramedics were called and he was taken to the Royal London Hospital. He remained conscious throughout.
“With the assistance of Professor Sid Watkins he was moved on Sunday to a hospital closer to his home where he underwent surgery on both his ankles, which were plated and pinned.”
Moss was moved to the Princess Grace Hospital. Doctors confirmed that he hadn’t suffered any internal injuries.
Lady Moss, Stirling’s wife, stated “this was a very unfortunate accident; it could have just as easily been another member of the family stepping into where the lift should have been”.
He is expected to make a full recovery within six weeks.
The F1 Times wishes Sir Stirling a full and speedy recovery.
