After fighting to retain his seat at Toro Rosso, Jaime Alguersuari is ready to prove himself in 2010.
The young Spaniard was drafted in to replace Sebastien Bourdais at the tenth round of the championship in Hungary. However, he struggled to match the pace of teammate Sebastien Buemi who was also a rookie at the team.
“Last year was what it was, I could not do more, I was an employee of Red Bull and could say neither yes or no (to replacing Bourdais).” He told Spain’s Diario Sport.
Alguersuari reckons 2010 will be completely different as he has had the time to prepare, completing hundreds of laps in testing, and covering numerous grand prix distances without the pressure to perform as if he were racing.
“For this year I have been able to train properly and develop physically as a driver and psychologically as a person, which is what I needed to do.” He added.
“I’m no longer a soldier thrown onto the beaches of Normandy. Now I can go onto the track and complete two grand prix distances in a day of testing, as I did at Jerez.” El Mundo quoted him as saying.
