The Haas F1 Team, led by owner Gene Haas, has begun wind tunnel testing of its car ahead of its planned debut in 2016.
The American outfit, which will also have a UK base, is working closely with Ferrari and Dallara to design and test its chassis and aerodynamics, hence the use of the Scuderia’s Maranello wind tunnel.
“Our model is in the wind tunnel at Ferrari right now, we are working in collaboration with Dallara on that, they are making some parts for the model there in Italy,” Haas told Racecar Engineering.
Haas also explained that they are busy building up the team and the essential equipment they need to operate next year, including equipping its UK base which was formerly owned by the Marussia team.
“Right now we are looking at buying our haulers and getting the equipment in place and getting organised,” he explained.
“We took possession of the facility in Banbury a couple of weeks ago. We are reconfiguring that to meet our needs at the moment and we have just finished the place at Kannapolis.
“The final car probably won’t get built until December, and we won’t start final production until late summer.”
