Lewis Hamilton has admitted he hadn’t expected Red Bull to be so quick in Barcelona this weekend.
The Red Bull’s ran away with the front-row in qualifying for Sunday’s race, almost a second ahead of the nearest rival which happened to be Hamilton’s McLaren.
“I don’t think anyone expected them to be so fast this weekend,” Hamilton said in the post-qualifying press conference.
“However we knew they would be quick, that is quite a decent gap. We will continue to push and focus on the areas we know we are weakest.”
Hamilton is hoping to use McLaren’s straight line speed advantage, thanks to their F-duct, to keep up with the Milton Keynes based outfit tomorrow.
“It is great to be up there, they are probably not as quick down the straights which is a bonus so we will see how quick they are tomorrow.”
The Brit was happy to be ‘best of the rest’ and hopes the MP4-25 will be closer to the front at circuits which aren’t predominantly geared to downforce levels.
“They have a good edge on the rest of the field, but hopefully when we get to other circuits that are a little less downforce then maybe we can benefit and hopefully we will be closer.
“It’s good to see us up there as best of the rest. We have a good foundation to work on and we have a lot of work to do.”
