‘Very emotional’ Correa secures full-time F2 return

Juan Manuel Correa will make a full-time return to Formula 2 in 2023 after securing a deal to compete for Van Amersfoort Racing.

Correa initially stepped up to Formula 2 in 2019 but suffered life-changing injuries in a horrific accident at Spa-Francorchamps in which Anthoine Hubert was killed.

Correa underwent multiple operations and extensive rehabilitation before making a racing comeback in Formula 3 in 2021.

He remained in the tertiary category in 2022, claiming a podium at Zandvoort, before making his Formula 2 return with VAR at the Abu Dhabi finale.

The American, 23, will now remain with VAR for a full campaign in 2023, where he will link up alongside Richard Verschoor.

“Being back full-time in Formula 2 means more to me than most people can imagine,” said Correa.

“It is not just an achievement in itself to be on this grid, but it also is a realisation of a goal that has been the epicentre of my efforts for the last three years, so it is a very emotional achievement.

“I am super grateful for the opportunity that Van Amersfoort Racing is giving me. I am very hungry, I am very motivated, and I know the team is as well

“F2 is a competitive category, and I think Van Amersfoort Racing has done a really good job in their first year in the championship. With the little experience they had, they’ve put on a very impressive performance.

“I am looking forward to seeing how I can help the team improve and work together with them in this very exciting season!”
