McLaren has announced that it has secured a multi-year partnership with Nissan in Formula E.

McLaren is entering Formula E for the 2022/23 season when the new Gen3 package will be introduced into the championship.

The outfit has taken over the entry currently occupied by the departing Mercedes operation.

On Thursday McLaren announced a multi-year deal with Nissan that will last through the entirety of the Gen3 era.

Nissan has been in Formula E since 2018/19, when it took over the Renault squad, and prior to the 2021/22 season it acquired full control of the outfit that had existed as e.dams.

It marks the first time that Nissan has supplied another team with its technology.

“As we are shaping the team for its first season as McLaren in Formula E, we are naturally seeking the best partnerships and opportunities on every front – with the technical aspect being one of the key areas,” said CEO Zak Brown.

“Nissan have proven their knowledge, craft and commitment over the last four seasons in Formula E, and heading into the Gen3 era, we have full confidence that the collaboration will bring both parties much success.

“This will be a true partnership that will drive both the team’s performance and the development of the Nissan Formula E powertrain technology.”

McLaren has yet to name its driver line-up for its maiden Formula E campaign.
