Former IndyCar driver Sarah Fisher will be the pace car driver for the upcoming 106th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Fisher will drive the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, complete with special White Pearl metallic paint, red accents, and this year’s Indy 500 logo on the door.

The special honor was given to Fisher, now 41, who raced in what was known as the IRL from 1999 to 2010 and holds the fastest qualifying lap for a woman around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“Every time I’ve had the opportunity to drive at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, it’s been special – from IndyCar Series cars to two-seaters to vintage cars,” Fisher said.

“Driving the Pace Car is just as special of an honor. And to have served in that role for the NTT IndyCar Series since Johnny Rutherford retired, I’ve had many great memories to add to my career.

“I am humbled and proud to become the official Pace Car driver for the 106th Indianapolis 500 and to represent the hard work and development that Chevrolet puts into these fantastic pieces of automobile advancement and technology.”

Fisher competed in nine Indy 500’s throughout her career, more than any other female, recording a best finish of 17th in 2009.

She also ran a team for seven years by the name of Sarah Fisher Racing, and earned one win in 2011 with Ed Carpenter behind the wheel.

This year’s Indy 500 will take place on May 29 in front of a sellout crowd of over 300,000 fans.
